The Truth About Effective Acne Skin Care

by James Redder

Acne skin care is important for those suffering from this malady. Especially when you take into account the psychological harm that acne causes. Even with that situation it doesn’t mean it’s something that cannot be tackled. Having acne skin issues affects people around the world so to find a cure with scientific research is fierce; the result of this effort is new, more effective, treatments are becoming available. Acne skin care products all fall into one of three main categories:

Over-the-counter: Preventative

Over-the-counter

Treatments That Require A Prescription

Probably the largest part of the skin care market is products that are designed to protect and clean the skin, like skin cleansers. In the real sense, these products are just those that should be part of your daily routine.

More specialized cleaners are designed in the same way as acne skin care products; they clean out the pores to help stop sebum or oil which clogs up the pores. Products like this work by minimizing the amount of oil that stays in the pores which can assist harmful bacteria growth which can lead to acne skin issues.

General skin care treatments also include special exfoliation products like skin peels. These are effective because they remove dead skin cells and all surface pollution which can cause the pores to get blocked.

There are over-the-counter acne skin care products available they do not require a prescription. Products which extract excess oil from the skin’s pores include vanishing creams. The active ingredient in most of these is salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide, both of which work to eliminate bacteria.

Studies would indicate that to get the maximum benefit from this type of product you should make sure the benzoyl peroxide content is 5 1/2 percent for starters, just to see how the skin takes it. If that causes an adverse reaction then there are similar acting products that contain Alpha Hydroxy acid. You should expect to try more then one type of product if you take into account the fact that we all have different skin types. If you can’t seem to find something that works then don’t hesitate to see your skin care specialist or doctor.

In the case where you need to consult your skin care specialist or doctor they may prescribe a special ointment or antibiotics. In some case your doctor may suggest the pustules are drained of harmful contents under local anesthetic, this is a minor procedure which if carried out by yourself could result in skin damage.

In Closing

Hormone therapy is an alternative that has been shown to be effective. In many cases studies would indicate that hormone based skin care treatments are effective since in some cases hormones can cause acne. Dealing and solving this skin complaint is not the issue it used to be, there are now a large selection of acne products specifically formulated to deal with this. This means that an acne sufferer does not have to put up with this condition unless they choose to.
