Acne: Being Aware Of The Acne Facts Can Help Treat Acne

by Dragan Ravikovitch

Myths have been thrown around about acne for centuries. There have been myths thrown around about anything about the human body forever. You simply will not be able to treat acne in the most efficient way unless you have acne awareness. Acne Awareness means knowing what the true causes of acne is, and what the best options of treatment are.

Myth 1: Only Young People Get Acne

False! Acne is something that can happen to anyone at any time. Hormones produced by teenagers are likely to cause acne, but it’s really easy to pick up if you don’t keep your face clean. So acne is NOT caused by age. Acne essetially means, “dirt or bacteria in the pores”, which in reality can happen to anyone who doesn’t clean their skin regularly. Failure to do so may result in mild acne, also known as pimples, zits, spots, redness etc.

Myth 2: Only A Doctor Can Treat Acne

If you have cystic acne, which is a more serious and painful type of acne that leaves ugly scars for life, then YES, it’s likely you’ll need to see a doctor fast. This kind of deep red sores that are increadibly painful will usually not be solved with anything except prescription treatments, time and patience.

But if you have regular acne, with little whiteheads that don’t usually hurt and do not leave any scars, you can treat the acne by yourself. If you still have questions about your skin or about acne awareness, be sure to ask your doctor. Nothing will shock your doctor.

Myth 3: Only Alcohol Based Lotions Cure Acne

Wrong! Harsh over the counter popular acne treatments that smell like alcohol are often way too harsh for proper acne awareness. Although they will certainly get rid of any oil or excess dirt on your skin, they will also strip away all of your sebum, which is your body’s natural skin oil. When the body feels the sebum gone, it says “Oh no! We need more sebum!” And proceeds to make barrels of sebum to compensate for the just cleaned off sebum. Just use gentle cleaners or even a moisturizing soap two or three times a day as needed to get rid of excess oil and dirt.

Myth 4: You Need To Scrub Your Face When Washing It

Again, false. You don’t need to scrub your face like a crazy person, you simple need to wash gently with mild soaps. Try to use cold enough water, but at the same time hot enough, and never use piping hot water! Instead of scrubbing your face with a towel, simple lightly touch your face with the towel. Learning and knowing about washing your face the right way is essential for proper acne awareness.
